IMPORTED FROM OLD BLOGThe gasket on the left was from Autozone. The one on the right is from VeeDub Parts in Huntington Beach, CA. Neither came with manufacturer information.
The Autozone one is just some thin metal around a thick paper gasket. The VeeDub one is layers of metal. So which is better?
The Autozone one would be more forgiving, but the VeeDub one would be more durable.
UPDATE
Karl on the Type 2 list suggests that either will be fine. So there ya go! He also offered a tip to good sealing:
Bend the ears of the flanges AWAY from the mating surface. That way when the exhaust is tightened down, the surface seals properly.
